Advisory Council

Independent Diplomat is guided by an advisory council of experienced former and serving diplomats, international lawyers and leaders of human rights organisations:

Hiruy Amanuel

Regional Director for the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue; former Head of Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Capacity Building Program against Terrorism; former Ethiopian Ambassador to Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic; former Head of the Ethiopian Embassy in Paris and Permanent Representative to UNESCO.

Alyson Bailes

Gareth Evans

Former members of ID’s advisory council include Danilo Türk, former Assistant Secretary-General, Department of Political Affairs, UN Secretariat, and now President of Slovenia (a post which required him to resign other affiliations including ID) and Ian Martin former Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Mission in East Timor and former Secretary-General of Amnesty International.
