Julie Beckenstein - New York, 2009

Julie recently completed an MSc in Politics and Government of the European Union from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She also holds a BA in English and Classics from Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to working at Independent Diplomat, Julie spent six months as a part time Parliamentary Assistant in the House of Lords.

Elisabeth Gross - Brussels, 2009

Elisabeth Gross is now the Europe and Central Asia Programme Officer with the Minority Rights Group in Budapest. Prior to joining ID, Elisabeth worked as an assistant programme coordinator at Transparency International. She has spent nine months with the OSCE Presence in Albania and has interned at the European Commission's Delegation to the U.S. in Washington. She holds a M.A. in Sociology, Eastern European Studies and International Relations from the Free University Berlin and an MSc in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Christina Hawley - Brussels, 2009-2010

Prior to joining ID, Christina worked as a consultant at the Office of the Secretary General of the OSCE. She also taught English and worked as a professional translator in Vienna. She holds a post-graduate degree in International Relations and European Studies from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and received a B.A. in Philosophy from Trinity College in Connecticut. 

Mladen Joksic - New York, 2009-2010

Mladen recently completed his M.A. in Public Policy from the Central European University, specializing in international public policy. Before attending the CEU, Mladen received a M.A. in Development Studies, specializing in governance and democracy at the Institute of Social Studies in the Netherlands and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Belgrade. He has worked at the Anne Frank Center in New York, OTPOR, and the Anti-Corruption Commission, both in Serbia, and as a research assistant at the University of Amsterdam.

Regina Jun - New York, 2009-2010

Regina is currently completing a M.A. in International Affairs at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. Prior to joining ID, Regina served in the Peace Corps in Paraguay as a rural economic development volunteer and worked as an independent consultant providing business advice to small enterprises in Istanbul, Turkey. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California Irvine.

Andrew Lewis - New York, 2009

Andrew is currently ID's UN Representative. Andrew spent 8 years as a consultant in the private sector, providing analytical and advisory services to companies negotiating and managing critical business relationships with their customers, suppliers and alliance partners. Andrew holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Merton College, Oxford and a M.A. in International Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where he wrote a thesis on the dispute in Western Sahara.

Charlotte Meyer - New York, 2009-2010

Charlotte has recently completed a MA of International Affairs at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. Prior to joining ID, Charlotte worked in South Africa as a strategy consultant for Monitor Group. She holds a BA in International Affairs from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands.

Abi Mihel - Washington, DC, 2009

Abi Mihel recently graduated with a M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations from the Whitehead School of Diplomacy at Seton Hall University, specializing in foreign policy analysis and negotiation/conflict resolution. She received her BA from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and also spent time studying in Paris, France. Previously, she has interned with the US Federation for Middle East Peace, a NGO working within the UN system, and for CivWorld@D?mos, a NYC-based NGO that promotes international interdependence and democracy development.

Vicky Tuke - London, 2009

Vicky is a third year PhD student at the University of Warwick in the Politics and International Studies Department. She was awarded a scholarship to investigate the evolving relationship between India and Japan, where she is currently conducting fieldwork. She holds a BA in History, which included a year at the University of South Carolina and MA in International Relations. For her M.A. dissertation she studied the public diplomacy strategy of the Chinese government during the countdown to the Olympic Games. During the summer of 2008 she also conducted research on the declining population in Japan with a Lord Rootes Award. Prior to joining ID, Vicky has taught English in China and undertaken internships at the British Embassy in The Hague and Parliament where she researched Foreign Affairs and Defence issues for the Conservative Party.
