Tom Miller

TM webTom Miller is Director of ID's Washington, DC office. He has over 29 years of experience as a career diplomat in the US Foreign Service, working on policy issues in the Balkans, Mediterranean, Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia. His career includes ambassadorships to Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as Special Cyprus Coordinator at the rank of Ambassador. Tom retired from the Foreign Service in 2004 after receiving numerous awards including the Equal Opportunity Award, the Cobb Award for Commercial Excellence, the Superior Honor Award five times and the Meritorious Honor Award.

Before joining ID, he was CEO and president of the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) where he led the 65-year old organization through a major reorganization of its business model and policy focus. Prior to his role at UNA-USA, Tom served as the chief executive of Plan International, a $700 million a year international non-profit that focuses on improving children's lives in developing countries. He was responsible for the coordination and management of all the agency's operations in 49 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
