argues that the UN
is in urgent crisis and in desperate need of renovation. While the
financial crisis has called the world to fix global financial
institutions, unnoticed is the slow-burn decline of the world body
charged with peace and security, the UN. Here the cost is not shrinking
economies, but raging war and bloodshed. The UN is beset by
inefficiency, overcomplicated process and sclerotic decision-making:
leadership out of this morass is hard to find. The only answer is an
urgent global conference to renovate the UN and return it to its simple
and ideal origins.
