Yokwe Online-Marshall Islands Takes On Difficult UN Climate Negotiations: Ambassador offers ideas to jump-start finance progress

One component of RMI's climate team is to partner with Independent Diplomat - a non-profit advisory group of former top diplomats, which assists disadvantaged groups to raise their voice in international forums and negotiations; Independent Diplomat seeks funding from major foundations and others to support their work with RMI. Independent Diplomat has offices worldwide, and their climate change expert - Dr. Dean Bialek - is a former Australian diplomat at the UN.
"Dean went from representing the world's largest island nation to working closely with one of its smallest. He has worked hard over the last year with our Ministers and experts to help raise RMI's voice and influence heard in the climate talks, which are generally lopsided in favor of the larger and better-resourced nations, and not those whose survival is at stake" said Muller. "Our relationship with Independent Diplomat has been key in getting our strong message understood, and in boosting our ability to reach across the table to a growing range of partners."
