EU and NATO ACCESSION
Independent Diplomat offers particular expertise to countries approaching EU and NATO accession.
ID can provide insights, advice and intelligence that may be unavailable or obscure to the national foreign ministries of countries applying for membership of European institutions, including:
- Intelligence on the thinking of the European Commission, EU member states, European Parliament and EU Council Secretariat, as well as advice on attitudes in government, parliament and the wider policy community;
- Advice on how to maintain and increase the confidence of EU member states in candidates seeking EU accession, in particular regarding a country’s fulfilment of the political criteria for membership;
- Guidance on contacts with the key players in EU integration – principally officials, but also non-governmental organisations, key press contacts and other opinion-formers;
- Intelligence on the thinking of the NATO Secretariat and member states on the status of membership applications;
- Advice on and assistance with individual diplomatic communications, including formal reports, letters, speeches, talking points and briefing material.
ID staff have extensive experience of EU and NATO accession; ID has advised the Republic of Croatia on its EU accession process. ID has access to a wide network of senior EU diplomats, based both in Brussels and members’ capitals, with which to access the best “inside track” expertise and knowledge.
